Working holidaymakers

Commonwealth citizens aged 17-30 inclusive, can come to the United Kingdom for up to two years as working holidaymakers. As such, they should only take employment which is incidental to their holidays. They should not engage in business, provide services as a professional sports person or entertainer, or pursue a career. As a general guide, work which is incidental to a holiday is regarded as being part-time or casual work. Full-time work, even on a casual basis, would normally be seen as appropriate for no more than half a working holidaymaker's stay. As a rule of thumb, full-time work is taken to mean more than 25 hours a week.

Period of employment

The period of stay and the restriction to taking work as a working holidaymaker will be shown in the person's passport. You should therefore keep a copy of a working holidaymaker's passport details, and make sure that your employment of the working holidaymaker does not breach the above conditions.
